On Wednesday, June 18, 2025, the Association of Resident Doctors, University of Abuja Teaching Hospital (ARDUATH), through its Committee on Special Duty, organized a health outreach at the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) main office in Gwagwalada. The outreach, themed “Know Your Health Status,” was designed to promote preventive healthcare among FRSC officials and to equip them with essential knowledge on lifestyle modification and basic life-saving skills.
A Holistic Approach to Health Awareness
The outreach was well-attended, with about 86 FRSC officials sensitized through a series of engaging health talks. The sessions provided practical tips on healthy living, covering areas such as nutrition, exercise, stress management, and routine health checks. Doctors also emphasized the importance of early detection in preventing life-threatening conditions.
In addition to the health talks, the ARDUATH team conducted a range of free health screenings to help participants understand their current health status. These included:
- Blood Pressure Checks
- Blood Glucose Tests
- Hepatitis B & C Screening
- Body Mass Index (BMI) Measurement
- Urinalysis for early detection of possible kidney or metabolic issues
Each participant received personalized feedback and medical advice based on their results, ensuring that the outreach was not just informative but also practical in guiding healthier lifestyle choices.

Training in Basic Life Support (BLS)
One of the highlights of the FRSC outreach was the Basic Life Support (BLS) training, which equipped officials with fundamental life-saving skills. Considering the nature of their work—responding to road accidents and emergencies—this training was particularly relevant. Resident doctors demonstrated techniques for cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), choking relief, and emergency response, allowing FRSC officers to practice hands-on.
This initiative aligned perfectly with ARDUATH’s goal of not only safeguarding the health of officials but also empowering them to save lives in critical moments.
Strengthening Preventive Healthcare
The outreach reflected ARDUATH’s strong commitment to preventive healthcare and community well-being. By providing access to free screenings and sensitization, the association addressed some of the silent yet growing health challenges among working professionals—such as hypertension, diabetes, and viral infections—that often go unnoticed until they become severe.
The FRSC officials expressed their appreciation for the program, noting that the health checks and training were both timely and impactful. For many, it was the first time undergoing certain screenings, which underscored the importance of the outreach.
Looking Ahead
The FRSC outreach is part of a broader series of health programs by ARDUATH aimed at engaging security agencies and civil service institutions in Gwagwalada. Similar initiatives have already been conducted with the Nigeria Police Force and are scheduled for other agencies, reflecting the association’s belief that a healthier workforce is a stronger, more effective one.
With this outreach, ARDUATH reaffirmed its mission of promoting quality healthcare delivery, not only within hospital walls but across the wider community. By helping FRSC officers “know their health status” and equipping them with practical life-saving skills, the association took another step in building a healthier, safer, and more resilient society.
